Some have asked about the equipment that I used. I guess I will give away the technical details of the shoot here in the description even though it requires giving away a bit of a "secret."
As for the video, it is a 75% GoPro 3+ Black and 25% IPhone 6+ mix. The IPhone has the narrower shots such as around 0:50, and then the next song at 0:56 is the wider-angled GoPro. Even within the same song I sometimes used both - at 4:25-4:45 the GoPro is used. Then during the brief black period I grabbed the IPhone for the rest of the song starting at 4:47. I preferred the GoPro because of bigger field of view, and it doesn't lose focus when the strobes go off.
As for the audio, that is a drawback with the GoPro. The GoPro audio in very loud venues is very reserved, or muffled - almost like the camera freaks out and plugs its own ears. The bass carries through well but all treble and clarity is totally lost. What I then did was a lot of FCP editing, by going back and "layering" the "studio" versions of the songs on top of the live audio, to about a 70%/30% mix of live/studio. For the best example of this, the music at 5:05-5:27 is straight GoPro. Then at 5:27 the layered audio is added for clarity for the rest of the song. Another example was at 1:52 where we are getting low - the GoPro audio is lacking clarity and is hard to make out the upcoming melody, so at 2:09 it is slowly faded in on top of it for the drop.
Therefore, what you hear reflects accurately the sounds of the concert - such as all crowd noises throughout the clip, particularly their a-capella singing at 5:56, yelling turn down for what at 1:28 and 1:46, and all DJ Snake talking such as "come on senorita" at 6:29. But by adding the studio audio on top of it, I feel like the sound in the video is the closest to what was actually experienced at the venue.
The audio editing with the IPhone 6+ footage was a bit less necessary because for some reason it is much better and louder, but I did it anyways for continuity. The audio at 3:38 for the intro of "Heads Will Roll" is straight IPhone, which might be okay, but I still added the texture at 3:48.
The editing was difficult, though - because for some reason the live audio played at around 101.4% of the studio song's speeds. Therefore, I had to continually adjust the speeds and pitches to match, and in a few instances during longer shots, even drop an occasional video frame in order to re-sync the audio in order to avoid a double "da-dum" on the downbeats when the speed adjustment just wasn't precise enough.
I hope that doesn't ruin it for you. :) I don't really consider it "cheating," because I am simply overcoming the limits of small handheld electronics that we're allowed to bring in. If we had professional equipment that we could bring in, I wouldn't have to do the heavy editing.
